Training Farmers for Sustainable Cotton Production
Customer Name: Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)
Industry: Non-Governmental Organisation
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a global, not-for-profit organization which aims to make global cotton production more sustainable for those who grow it, for those who consume it, and for the environment.
Challenge: The Knowledge Gap in Sustainable Farming Practices
Pakistan is the fourth largest cotton producer in the world. It also houses the world’s third-biggest cotton spinning facility. However, current cotton production uses farming practices that jeopardize the condition of the environment, as well as the welfare of the farmers. Due to a lack of access to farming education, farmers are unable to adopt alternative practices that are less detrimental to the environment, increase their welfare, and maximise their profits. BCI needed a way to make knowledge about sustainable farming practices more easily accessible to farmers.
Solutions: Filling the Knowledge Gap in Sustainable Farming Practices
These gaps in education is where EDTW stepped in. As a platform dedicated towards digitizing knowledge, we recognized the need for easily consumable visual informatics, to educate farmers about newer, more sustainable farming methods. The creative team is currently in the process of creating informative animations, through a process of extensive research and storyboarding. These animations will provide the farmers with a one-click solution to their farming problems. Farmers and field facilitators would be able to access the EDTW platform, through the website or the application, where they can watch informative videos and tutorials to teach farmers and BCI’s field facilitators about sustainable farming practices.
